What are the safe places to live in Philadelphia? Hopefully something close to Philadelphia...?

Right across the street is a very nice private school (William Penn Charter). There's plenty of apartments and condos right along School House Lane, by the school. Generally speaking, the areas south of Germantown Ave. are considered safer than the north side. The problem with that whole area is that you don't have to stray far to walk into a place you'd rather not be but, the communities are working hard to maintain what they have now. As you move more towards Montgomery County, into Chestnut Hill, you'll find some really nice areas, old but nice. And if you don't mind going one more mile, you'd be in the 'burbs and a very big difference in scenery but that comes at a cost too. By the way, the school just built a really large athletic facility with a state of the art weight room and gym and a huge new cafeteria.

Okay, I won't beat around the bush. Xylem and Jacquelyn are morons. Philadelphia is one of the safest big cities in the country, and because it is rich in great colleges and universities, it is very "student friendly". I am astounded that anyone would try to sell you to move to a toilet like Wilmington over Philadelphia. Most of the murders in Philadelphia involve people who either buy or sell drugs and associate closely with those who. Living the "thug life" in Philly is a high risk avocation. Yes, Philadelphia has bad neighborhoods. All big cities do, but Philadelphia also has lots of diverse, eclectic up-beat neighborhoods that are thriving. East Falls is in the northwest section of the City, It is an area that has everything from slums and ghettos to millionaires' mansions. Now, not all of east Falls is nice, but it is very close to Manayunk and Roxborough, which are great places to live. University City is no where near Philadelphia University. It is a large portion of west Philadelphia occupied by the Penn and Drexel campuses (campi?. The best thing about Philadelphia is that it is a City of neighborhoods. It is like a hundred different cities all rolled into one. There is no place better to live in the northeast. It has a great system of public transportation and easily accessible, interesting suburbs. Conshohocken is an old steel town that has been re-born as one of the nicest small towns in the state. Don't let a couple negative minded idiots sell you wrong on Philadelphia. I have been here for most of 60 years, and it is far bnetter than any of the other places I have lived.

Philadelphia University is nowhere near University City (as the other poster implied). You're right, it's in East Falls. I'd look around Manayunk. Or if you can find something in your price range, I'd shoot more for Bala Cynwyd. Bala Cynwyd is just outside of the city and is a very nice neighborhood, but is only about 3 miles from Philadelphia University. It tends to be very expensive, but occasionally you can get a good deal.

The Roxborough section of the city is safe and very close to Philadelphia univ. Manayunck is nearby and is popular with students. It is a bit more congested and a much older community.

You picked a good college in a good area of the city; you can live right in East Falls and walk to school more then likely. If not; the Manayunk area is very close, and also a nice area for a young person.

Phila. University is in East Falls, and very close to Manyunk and Roxborough. Any of those places would be lovely to live in, and there are many young people living in those areas. A lot depends on what you can afford. If you can afford over $900 per month, you might want to look into a group of complexes along Henry Ave. called Summit Park. You can find out all about them in Google. They have a fantastic indoor and an outdoor pool. A great club house, tennis courts, etc. And a young crowd. It's across from a shopping center. My guess is that the least expensive, but still safe, are in East Falls. They just wont have the fancy amenities. Good luck on your new adventures!

Depending on whether or not you will drive or take public transportation, your best bets in the city are Manayunk and Roxborough. Both are right next to East Falls, and are a little further away from some bad parts of the City. You can go right outside of the City to Bala Cynwyd or Conshocken, or Oreland in Montgomery County. In general, the townships in Montgomery County are nice safe places to live.

Go to Wilmington Delaware get a place there a compute by train or by car. I don't think there is any place safe in Philadelphia any more. There is at least one killing a day there any more. In the last three weeks tree police were shot dead.
