Is there a Jewish neighborhood in Philadelphia?

Is the Point Breeze neighborhood in Philadelphia a bad neighborhood?

  • I am moving to Philadelphia and I found a very nice apartment in the Point Breeze neighborhood. I google mapped it, and it did not look really good, nor did it look really bad. I read up on the neighborhood and found out that it is being heavily revitalized and gentrified. I was wondering if this would be an ok place to move.

  • Answer:

Even the worst neighborhoods of Philadelphia have lots of great, hard working decent people who live there. Point Breeze is 'revitalizing", but it is still pretty rugged and not a spot that I would recommend, unless you were used to big city living, and secure in 'tough' neighborhoods.

Point Breeze is being revitalized due to its proximity to Center City, but it is still one of the higher crime areas in the city. The Newbold section east of South 18th Street is supposedly the better portion of the neighborhood (it's also closer to the Broad Street Line) I'd visit the neighborhood at various times of the day. Comfort level varies by person. Take a look around the neighborhood at 11PM and see if you would feel comfortable coming back from the bus stop or train station. If you feel comfortable then go for it. I hope this information was very helpful.
