Is there an upscale neighborhood in Philadelphia?

Is anyone familiar with the Point Breeze neighborhood in South Philadelphia?

  • My husband and I are looking into purchasing a house in Point Breeze near 24th and Dickinson. We were both born and raised in the far Northeast but are currently living out of state so we cannot check out the neighborhood for a little while. I was hoping to get some opinions about the area. Most of what I can find on the internet says it varies block to block but overall it's not so hot...but a lot of those people aren't from the city or have just visited...so they tend to be weary of urban areas all together. The house is gorgeous, but I don't feel like dealing with Camden-like crime on a regular basis. I'd appreciate any input!

  • Answer:

Point Breeze is being revitalized due to its proximity to Center City, but it is still one of the higher crime areas in the city. The Newbold section east of South 18th Street is supposedly the better portion of the neighborhood (it's also closer to the Broad Street Line) I'd visit the neighborhood at various times of the day. Comfort level varies by person. Take a look around the neighborhood at 11PM and see if you would feel comfortable coming back from the bus stop or train station. If you feel comfortable then go for it. I hope this information was very helpful.

24th & Dickinson? Compared to where you grew up, not even close. Like the Frankford section of the NE Phila but without the yards. Gorgeous House? Diamond in the rough then around there.

Yea its Quite Slummy But its More of a Classier Slum Not TOO Much Crime Around Point Breeze But its Not To Astray From an Occasional Scene of Drug Dealing But it is VERY Close to Grays Ferry Which is Known to Be a Really Bad Area So It All Depends on How Safe You are in Looking at The Surroundings I Suggest Contacting Human Rescuers of The Police Department and Ask if You Could Obtain Police Records for The Neighborhood Within at 4-10 Mile Radius and If There Has Been Much Illegal or Suspicious Activity Around or The Vicinity of (The Address of Which Your are Looking to Make The Purchase) Human Resources Contact Number is 215-683-0875 also You Could Just Call City hall 311
