Which is a better and safer neighborhood in Philadelphia?

How is fishtown Philadelphia?? is it a quiet neighborhood i mean atleast better than north philly?

  • Answer:

Fishtown is a decent neighborhood. It's definitely better than north Philly. It recently went through a 'gentrification' and now it's an up & coming area. It's not a quiet neighborhood though. It is still a crowded city neighborhood with rowhomes & too many cars, etc. But it's a clean and well kept area with a safe feel and it is close to center city with all the conveniences. -------------------- Actually there are major retail stores (some were just built) by york & Aramingo (which is the edge of Fishtown). There is Wawa, Applebees, Pizza Hut, Arby's, Cold Stone, PepBoys, Foot Locker & More.. And the waterfront is undeveloped industrial space now but it will be built up eventually. And yes alot of Home Owners Insurance will not Insure this area, but mostly because row homes are a fire hazard and can cause damage to a whole block. I live in West Kensington, which is North Philly and probably the worst neighborhood in Philly. I have Liberty Mutual home owners insurance and I used to have Allstate.

Why do ppl mainly Caucasians worry about North Philly when the only ones that ever move there are affiliated with Temple? Yes Temples main campus is smack dab in the middle of North PHiladelphia...And Fishtown is bordered by Kensington to the north, separated by mear feet and the poorest neighborhood in Philly. So poor that State farm insurance stopped writing insurance there..Fishtown is only approx 1o square blks bordered by North Philly, Kensington and old city. its mainly row homes, undeveloped water front and industrial area..without any movie theaters, strip malls or major retailers..

My friend moved out of there a few years ago. She was a single woman living alone. At first I wasn't sure about safety there, but she seemed just fine. I never saw anything scary when I visited her. The homes are pretty old... and slanted... Some people see that as a minus, but I love quirky old stuff :) It was quiet enough, and I could always find street parking.

hey!

If anything Fishtown mirrors North Philly, the only difference is the race of people.
