Things for a 24 yr old woman to do in Philadelphia by herself?
-
I am going to be visiting Philadelphia with my boyfriend who is from there. However one of the days we are there he will be gone all day visiting his brother in Prison :( . I plan on going shopping at King of Prussia Mall in the morning but need more ideas of things I can do by myself (must be in safe areas). Any ideas of fun things I can do by myself?

Answer:
As many others have said, the King of Prussia Mall is a destination unto itself. While not big enough to support an indoor roller coaster or anything like that, the mall is more than enough to occupy your entire day. The KOP Mall actually is comprised of two malls, the Court and the Plaza, each of which is the size of your typical shopping center. But, since you are going to be at the KOP Mall in the morning, I will suggest things to do with your afternoon that are closeby (if you need to get back down to Philadelphia to meet your boyfriend, though, you should get out of the area by 3:30pm to avoid rush hour traffic on the weekdays). After your mall visit, you can head south on Route 202 to the Chesterbrook Blvd exit (not far, about 5 minutes) and right there is the Valley Forge State Park, which is really nice and big and you can walk around and immerse yourself in history. Also nearby is Five Guys Burgers and Fries, which has the best cheeseburgers in the known universe. I promise. If you continue south on 202, and then get onto route 30 west (regular 30, not business 30) you will find yourself near the Amish country in about 40 minutes. This is such a different experience than your typical big city tourist trap that I would actually recommend allotting more time for it. You can cruise through small Amish towns and sample the local cuisine and crafts. The White Collar Ruckus http://whitecollarruckus.libsyn.com

-Go to Ikea and shop, shop, shop! -Go to boathouse row and watch the rowers -Go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art (where Rocky was filmed) -Go do all the touristy things downtown (liberty bell, independence hall, etc.)

I agree that Valley Forge is a great area, especially if it's a beautiful day. The KoP mall is pretty big, but contrary to what one poster said, it's not the second largest mall in America.

If you like art the Philadelphia Museum of Art is amazing. If you go on Sundays they only require a donation before 1PM. I usually give $5. per person on Sunday mornings. The usual price is much more. You will see a great deal of beautiful pieces make sure you check out Prometheus (one of my favorite paintings in the museum). This is also a big tourist spot because of the steps from the Rocky movies. Right behind the museum is Kelly Drive. There are a few miles of sidewalks(great for walking, biking, rollerblading). You can take Kelly Drive up to the Manyunk section of the city to check out more eclectic stores & restaurants. Many people go to South Street but I think it is overrated. It was fun & cool 10-15 yrs ago. Now it is more seedy. You can always check out the historic sites in Olde City. The Liberty Bell, City Hall, etc.. You can see the Phillies play (that might be disappointing) Or you can cross the Ben Franklin Bridge & go see a minor league baseball game or the aquarium in Camden. On Fridays the games in Camden (Riversharks) usually have fireworks.

Well Valley Forge National Park is right next to King of Prussia. So go see where George Washington hung out for awhile. Like others have said, you could send a whole day just at the mall or the surounding stores. As for in the city? Well the Zoo is nice, The Art Museum with its famous steps is a popular place to vist. Check out Reading Terminal Market. I could spend days there! Also there are a lot of cute boutiques and stuff all along Chestnut St. South Street can be fun too, especially between 5th & 8th. Have fun! Oh, P.S. if you're into bathy stuff, try Duross & Langel on 12th & Locust. It's wonderful & so are the owners!
