Where to live in Philly?

Where is better to live? Philly or NYC?

  • You could make a pro and con table of either cities yourself I live in PA near Philly And I lived in Philly when I was a baby I heard there is a nicer part of Philly with shopping and nicer houses I like shopping I always really liked NY and I've been to NYC before But it's like you gotta take a taxi or subway everywhere Is there a town outside of NYC where parking isn't so hard and lesser traffic Is parking and traffic really that bad in NYC Shopping is awesome Btw I'm asking to figure out where I wanna live when I'm older

  • Answer:

There is no denying, New York IS the Big Apple. But living there isa lot tougher and more expensive than life in Philadelphia. I have family;y who lived in New York for years, and what a difference 90 miles can make. And, in Philly, you are only a two hour drive to New York anyhow

We took a bus up to NY once - lost the side mirrors. A bit squishy with traffic lanes, and very crowded. NY is 100 bigger than Philly. Philly is a city of neighborhood. we take care of our own and watch out for each other. Voted too friendly when the Republicans came to have their convention. Voted least friendly for opposing sports teams. Stores owners can be nasty, but I'm able to avoid those stores. Houses are cheap in Philly. That's why me moved here. You just got to know where your moving too, because some neighborhoods are best to avoid. We live in South Philly and can always park our car on our street - except at night.

A car is more trouble than it's worth in New York City, and since public transit can get you everywhere for much cheaper, why would you even want one? Personally, I think the same goes for Philly even though the transit system is not quite as extensive. One of the best parts of city life is living car-free. Both Philly and New York have plenty of shopping- both local and national chains. New York has more expensive high-end shopping like what's on 5th Ave. Fortunately, there are far more interesting things to do than shop in both cities. :) The biggest difference between Philly and New York is size. Philly is 1.5 million people while New York is several times that. Philly slows down at night, but New York is busy 24 hours a day. It's more crowded and busier. It's also a lot more expensive. I prefer Philly because it has all the benefits of a big city without being overwhelming or over-crowded. Even though it's smaller than New York, there is more to see and do than one person could ever accomplish. It's also a much more affordable city. It's neighborhood is unique and full of surprises.

NYC. OK to visit, hell to live in. Skip it.
