What is the best way to get to New York City from Philadelphia?

What is the cheapest way to get to philadelphia from new york?

  • hi! im a student, going on an audition on thursday to philadelphia, from new york city. what is the cheapest possible way to get there?

  • Answer:

One way fare on Northeast Corridor Line operated by New Jersey Transit is now $12.50 one way from NYC Penn Station to Trenton, Round Off-Peak ticket is $21.75. SEPTA R-7 cost $8 one way or roundtrip $14. At Trenton, SEPTA Regional ticket vending machine is not in service, so you have to go upstair to get your ticket from NJT Window because if you bought from SEPTA Conductor, $2 Surcharge applies. Same reason for New Jersey Transit. Buy ticket from New Jersey Transit machine to avoid $5 surcharge from New Jersey Transit conductor. If you want to spend $8 one way or roundtrip on SEPTA, you could also avoided by taking $1.35 RiverLine one way, must be validaded, then at Walter Rand Transportation/Broadway PATCO Station, get $1.15 card and take PATCO to Center city stations.

You're best best is to take the NJ Transit Northeast Corridor from Penn Station NY to Trenton and then connect for the SEPTA to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station. It's $20.50 one way and takes about two and a half hours.

Ok, I did this tons! Go to www.greyhound.com they have a e-fares, $23 round trip. It takes you from port authority in NYC to the greyhound station in Philly (between 10 & 11th street). It's really close to center city and it's the best way to travel. I took the china town bus and I would NEVER do it again!

Although DLJ has already suggested you try walking, it is much more efficient to bike if you already have a bike. Hitchhiking is also free but may result in your death by the hands of a psycho if Hollywood has the right of it.

Greyhound - between 2 and 3 hours depending on whether you take the express or local. $23 one way, nonrefundable, $30 one way refundable. Greyhound is not as scary as people make it out to be :-) http://www.greyhound.com/home/

Probably by train. Although, sometimes plane tickets can be pretty cheap. I would check on both, just in case.

I always take the train from 30th Street to Penn.
