What are the best areas for a family in Philly?

What are the best areas of Philly to live in for a 23 year old recent college grad?

  • Are there certain places or areas that are more youth oriented, and are more safe? My price range is anywhere from living with a roommate for $300 to living in a studio for about $800/month.

  • Answer:

You could try downtown.. or maybe northeast.. I've heard that city line is preety cool too. But moost likely you can get an apartment in northeast usually around cottman ave. Somewhere in the srea.. center city is full of energy and life.. but north east is active during the day and safer at night.. just never travel alone at night..

I doubt you'll be able to find something in Center City within your price range, everything there is pretty high. I live in the Northeast area, it's a good neighborhood and youth oriented. I pay a thousand a month, where I live but there's some great apartments in the area where you can live for much cheaper. I'm talking about the Academy RD area, you should be able to find decency around there.

Have you looked into Manayunk (lots of people your age, bars, restaurants) or the Art Museum area? You may also want to check out parts of Northern Liberties. I'm not sure if they will work in that price range but they are good, fun areas you would feel safe in. Areas like NE and Fishtown may be cheaper but there are a few too many lower-middle class types who like to get drunk/high on the porch and get in bar fights for me.

Hey everybody A.J.'s here!

Northeast is nice . (:

I'd suggest checking some of the areas that border downtown. They have some affordable units in your price range and are very easy in terns of getting around, plenty to do and quality of life. Try some of the South Philly areas like Bella Vista, Queen Village, Passyunk Square and East Passyunk Crossing. Also look at University City which is home to Drexel and Univ of Penn.

I would go with Manayunk or Conshohocken.
