What are the different sections of Philadelphia?

How dangerous is Philadelphia?

  • I'm going to Philadelphia and I'm staying on Crawford Ave outside of Philly. I was just wondering how dangerous Philly is and if there are any sections I should avoid. Thanks.

  • Answer:

Well since I've read your previous question, I know you're staying West Conshohocken. West Conshohocken is a very suburban quiet town. And the hotel you're staying at is one that many out of town sports teams stay at. The city, for the most part, is safe. There are a few pockets of town that account for the city's image as unsafe. All the primary tourist areas are safe. Avoid North Philly and West Philly. If you go to the zoo, don't wander off the Schuylkill Expressway past the zoo.

Very dangerous, and filthy. Ever hear of Killadelphia? Filthadelphia? It's the Compton of Pennsylvania, practically the dump of the US. It's like a warzone; it looks like it went throught World War 3. The people here are very rude and seem to snap over little things. Even in the good parts of the city. And you can never, I mean never, leave the house at night. It's scary and dangerous at night, and there are people hiding waiting to rob you. And don't even think of catching the subway at night. I warn you. There are rats in the train stations, and people there start trouble for no reason, or for money. I know many people who have gotten jumped there at night, including one of my teachers. He was jumped, got his wallet taken away, and was beaten with a baseball bat and a beer bottle. Definitely avoid all parts of North Philly. There aren't really any good parts there or parts that are safe. It's filthy with row homes tilting to one side. The city should be kind of safe at day as long as you don't piss anyone off, but at night, close your windows, lock your doors, crunch up in the corner, and sleep in a bullet-proof jacket. I don't like it very much...

In any city there are sections you should avoid but all in all it isn't very dangerous.
