Best retirement communities in Florida ?
-
I have a severely disbled adult step-son who lives with my wife and I. We are interested in retiring to Florida and would like to know what are the best retirement communities in Florida that are accessible to good health care ? We are not golfers but would like a condominium with a community recreation center and pool. My step-son is wheelchair bound so we need a 1 floor ranch style condominium. What are some good areas that would suit our needs ? What are the names of some good condominium/retirement communities that would suit our needs in these areas ? How much should we expect to pay to live in a non-golf oriented condominium in Florida ?

I agree with the other responder. The Villages is a great retirement community. I live about 20 minutes away from there. I am only 21, but I have decided that I want to retire there. There is always something to do there, and you can get basically anywhere within TV(The Villages) by golf cart, which is the preferred mode of transportation there. They have a really good hospital, and plenty of good doctors and specialists throughout TV. I am not sure in TV offers any condo type places, but I do know there are several different types of communities within the villages. If you call the welcome number from TheVillages.com they are very helpful there. This is a very golf oriented place, but there are plenty of other things to do besides golf. One final thing, TV is a pretty expensive place to live. The people who do retire there are pretty well off. It may be pretty descent for all they have to offer, but in my eyes you pay a pretty penny to live there. I would recommend taking a FREE tour of TV, and just talking with the Welcome Center people, they are the most helpful. GOOD LUCK

There's a place called 'The Villages' about an hour north of Orlando that is nothing but one big huge retirement community. It was specifically designed for this purpose and many residents drive golf carts around town instead of using a car. They also have their own hospital which probably does pretty good business! You don't have to be into golf. There are several communities to choose from. You can find out more info at www.thevillages.com. Good luck.
