Best east coast beaches?

Florida east coast beaches vs. golf coast?

  • My family is going to orlando, florida for vacation. We want to squeeze in one or two days at the beach. I have heard east coast beaches are closer but are rougher in terms of waves. This doesn't really bother us because we live in md and are always on the atlantic ocean beach so we know how rough it can be. Are florida east coast beaches any different from any other east coast beach, because we definitely want to be at a beach with nice blue water. Is there only nice clear blue water on the golf coast beaches? And what is the best golf coast beach? East Coast? I also fear the golf coast beaches would be a little boring since there are no waves.

  • Answer:

I have been to both and prefer the GULF side. With waves comes WIND and there have been sometimes at Daytona and Coco where the sand was blowing so hard it was like being in a sandblaster - it hurt. I prefer the Gulf - a couple of beaches south of Clearwater - Indian Rocks and - st Pete's beach. Lots to do and see

Gulf coast are much much nicer. They are mostly white sand and dont have as many waves as the Atlantic side but they still have waves. Great Beaches that are an easy drive from Orlando would be Clearwater to St. Petersburg (St. Petes Beach) by Tampa and south of Tampa the Famous Siesta Key by Sarasota which has the whitest sand in the world (proven). I much prefer the Gulf side. Also Long boat key has Lido Beach right next to the Famous Shopping Area of Armonds Circle.

we have visited daytona, coco beach and indian rocks at clearwater and i have to say we prefered daytona, the beach was huge and the sand powdery white, it was a bit windy because it was january but the beach at indian rocks was much narrower and was dirtier with more seaweed on the beach, daytona was spotless and even had recycling bins on the beach, very impressive as in the Uk we can't even get ppl to put trash in normal bins in high streets never mind get ppl to sort their recycling out on the beach lol

the Gulf coast has prettier beaches.....white sand, blue to dark green water.....but if it surfing that you want, you won't find many large waves on the Gulf coast.

It takes 45 minutes to get to Coco Beach (It is ok). Travel 1hr 15mins and go the Clearwater Beach, much better. Better driving too.
