Has anyone worked on WDW cultural representative programme?

  • Hi there, I am (allegedly) going to work on the WDW cult rep programme for a year starting in February, and was wondering if anyone has been on this, and if they felt it was worth it. What is the likelihood of getting fired? ie, how many people are "let go" before the year is up. Anything I should be warned about. Also, is it possible to open a bank account in the US before I go (I am a Brit) and any recommendations on mobile phones to bring with me?

  • Answer:

I have done the college program and dated a few people who have been cultural representatives. Keep your nose clean and you won't get fired! Plain and simple. Disney has A LOT of rules, just follow them and learn how to make them work to your advantage. On the College program the termination rate is around 50% but with internationals it is a bit lower. Disney will help you get an account set up through Vista Federal Credit Union. They are a great bank and are really fair. As far as mobiles go. Get on here. You can get a "MetroPCS" phone without a year contract and go month to month with unlimited calling in the USA. You just can't travel with this phone but it makes a great local phone! I hope this answered your questions!

You're asking this on a site in England. I don't think you'll get many serious responses.

I can’t answer about the first part, but I can answer on the rest ;) I worked for Disney for about 5 years on the weekends. The likelihood of getting fired isn’t that great for cultural reps since you’re among Disney’s most expensive hourly hires… however, there is still a chance, especially if you’re careless in your behavior. Just follow the rules and don’t be careless. You won’t be able to open a US bank account before going, since you won’t have a social security number or US address until after you’ve arrived. Even if you could, I personally would hold off, since Disney has a credit union (a cooperative financial institution) for its Cast Members. Think of it as a bank open only to Disney Cast Members and its families. Check them out at http://www.vistafcu.org/ Mobile phones in the US typically require contracts, and the only 2 GSM providers here are T-Mobile and AT&T. Most of the cultural reps that I know end up purchasing a Virgin Mobile prepaid phone once they arrive. They can be purchased at the Virgin Megastore in Downtown Disney. Be advised- DO NOT BRING A UK VIRGIN MOBILE PHONE, it is not the same as Virgin Mobile in the US and will not work. Also, check out http://forums.wdwmagic.com as they have a fairly active WDW Employment board, also the forums at http://www.wdwip.com/ are pretty good.
