Going to Disneyword the week AFTER Thanksgiving. What is a typical wait time for dinner without reservations?
-
We are going to disneyworld the week after Thanksgiving Nove 28-Dec 5,2008. We are staying on disney property with the basic dining plan. We have reservations for Cinderellas Dinner (luckily). However, we have tried to make some reservations for other restaurants around the park (Coral, Cellier, etc.) but all are booked or have very early or late times. My question is....Are reservations entirely necessary and if I don't have reservations, what are the typical wait times to be seated. We are a family of 4 two adults 2 children. Are there any recommendations on time to arrive at a restaurant to be seated timely.

Answer:
Many of the more popular restaurants will only take reservations. You are going during the busiest time of the year for Disney, the holiday season. I would keep calling and trying to get a reservation, just in case there is a cancellation. If you don't have any luck, check with the concierge at your resort, they can help you. If all else fails you can check at the restaurant early in the morning of the day you want to eat there, but that is hit and miss. When I was there in March over Easter Break (the second busiest time of the year) we had reservations for Sci Fi Drive in at Disney Studios. While we were waiting people were walking up to try to get in, but they were not accepting any walk up traffic at all. If you walked up you were getting a reservation. However when we ate at the Prime Time 50's Cafe they did accept walk ups, but it was a 45 minute to 1 hour wait. I hope this helps, have a great trip!! If you are looking for more info for your visit, I highly recommend the disboards. The disboards is a free message boards type website that is all about going to Disney. I consider myself a Disney veteran with 15+ visits under my belt, and I learn something new each time I am on the website. You can get restaurant reviews, resort reviews, trip reports, tips, tricks, advice and much more. I put the link below. Have a great time!

Reservations are not completely necessary, however the week you are going is the start of WDW's peak season. Reservations are STRONGLY recommended. Disney does not work on a reservation system, but however a priority seating system. This means if you have a reservation at 8:15, but arrive at 7:00, you will be seated as soon as a table becomes available instead of having to wait until your 8:15 time. This is a little known fact about Disney, so most people will wait around until their appointed reservation time. If you can get a priority seating request in for the restaurants you mentioned any time during that week you are lucky. Take the time closest to what you want and then show up earlier or later. As long as your name is on the priority seating list for that meal period you are guaranteed to have a seat. However if you just walk up for a table the chances of getting one are VERY VERY slim. Keep checking with dining reservations at 407-939-3463 for availability and you can always change the reservation they give you to one that is closer to your preferred time, if it becomes available. Let me know if you have any other questions.

We just went in June and are going again Dec 8-16. I've been told the weekend after Thanksgiving is crazy busy. When I first made my reservations it was past the 180 days they start taking reservations. I didn't get but three that I wanted. I have called every week and now I have all my reservations scheduled. When we were there in June it was impossible to get walk up seating (we had reservations for everything, but I watched other people). For your trip it may be easier after the weekend is over. Sometimes it's also easier closer to your leave date. People paying for the packages have to be completely paid up by 45 days, some have to cancel right around that time. Also, last time I was there I changed a few of my reservations same day or the day before.

If you can get reservations, they are recommended, however that time of year is one of the slowest times of year to go. Once the parks empty out from Thanksgiving you should have very short lines both at restaurants and on the rides. You will also have the benefit of Christmas lights being up already. Those restaurants may be booked then, but a lot of WDW restaurants book up to two years in advance. If there is somewhere you really want to dine, I would say to just stop by at that time... you never know they may be able to get you in. I would advise you to check out www.allears.net. You will be able to find menus for all of the WDW restaurants as well as their prices. Good luck to you and have fun!

The weekend after Thanksgiving, the 28-30 will be crowded because of the holiday weekend. Try the weekdays of Dec 1+ .... by then most of the out-of-towners have left to go back to school & work. l DO recommend you have a reservation. Those are the first days of the Christmas events, & the restaurants will be filled with locals comming in to have dinner then go see the lights & the shows. Its hard to guess wait times but you might check the restaurant early that day & ask for their advice.

Your going to need those RSVP's! Disney rsvp's are a wait list for "first available table" not a guarantee to eat at that time-so all those other people are in line ahead of you already. Some places to try-Norway (Akershus Princess meal), Morocco (Marrakesh) has belly dancing during the dinner, Mexico (San Angel Inn) is absolutely gorgeous, Chrystal Palace (Winnie the Pooh)-try the latest available breakfast/brunch and then use the counter service for later in the day. Or combine 2 TS credits and try to get a space at Hoop-de-Doo or the Luah-and then can use one of the cs another day! Either way-your not just going to be able to walk up and get a table. Keep calling!!!

You're running into some of the Thanksgiving crowd since Thanksgiving is the 27th, and folks will stay until the 29th and 30th that week. We're booked the 22nd - 29th. If the restaurants are booked, then you need ressies, especially for Le Cellier. The holiday celebrations will have started which means people are booking the Candlelight Processional Dining Package, giving you competition for ressies in Epcot eateries. Have you checked dinner in other parks?

I do not have personal knowledge of this situation as we have always prearranged our meals. I have heard numerous people complain about the difficulty they had finding table service. Since you have paid for the dinning plan I think you need to try more places. Since you have two children who are interested in character meals I would try more of those. We have do all of them and they are great. My suggestion is to check out all the dinning options at www.waltdisneyworld.com, then call 1-407-WDWDine, and see what is available.

Well, it all depends on where you eat. If you plan on eating at the Coral Reef and Cellier, like you said, yes, reservations are definitely needed. You might be able to make it in without one, but you'd be extremely lucky. Those places are usually booked solid.

Good Luck. Some restraunts don't take walks up and if they do they squeeze you in. I remember getting a walk up at the liberty tavern for 2 adults and 1 kid and we sat there for an hour. Keep calling
