I want to move to Colorado. Any tips?

Want to move from colorado to florida?!?

  • Im a native to colorado but have had a huge itch the past couple of years to move to florida because of a family vacation there i just loved it. Besides the hurricanes and heat , the heat doesnt bother me coming from colorado i could use a good thaw out. But going as a single male age 23, i would love to get a house but am thinking i could only afford a condo or appartment. Looking to move to central florida area as in orlando/kissimmee area. Besides the tourists what would be some other negitives to living in that area???

At your age, this could be a great thing for you. I did a similar cross-country move at the same age and it was one of the best things I ever did. I moved to FL for the same reasons 10 years ago, and never regretted it. Orlando is very similar to other major cities, with it's pluses & minuses. Outside of Orlando are smaller towns (growing quickly), that are on the quieter side. You also have both coasts (Tampa & Daytona), which are great destinations less than an hour away. Now is also a great time to buy a home, as many vacation areas have surplus inventory. As a single person, I would definitely lean towards a condo. They are less maintenance than a house, giving you more free time to do other things. A great place to live, you'll get used to the heat after one summer. Everywhere you go has AC, like everywhere you go now has heat. I think the summer heat is much more bearable than the bitter cold. Do your research thoroughly before you move, and you should be fine. If your searching websites, make sure you separate fact from opinion.

Yes, there are a lot of tourists in some areas of Orlando, but not everywhere. Where I live, it's not a touristy part of Orlando at all, yet I'm fairly close (about 45 minutes) from Disney and only an hour from Cocoa Beach. I certainly wouldn't consider tourists a negative of living in Florida. Thanks to them and their money we have no state income taxes. However, there are some. Hurricanes are one of them. We had three direct hits in 2004. The likelihood of this happening again is slim. Then again, no one would have guessed that it would have happened then. Because of the hurricane risk, homeowners insurance is pretty high. Summers are pretty yucky with the heat and humidity. Probably the first few wouldn't bother you much, but after a few years your body will get acclimated to the climate and you will start hating summers like many Floridians. Just like the first winter you'll scoff at those people wearing hats and gloves when it is 55, but after a few years, you'll be one of those people! Another negative about this area is traffic. It's bad. The best bet is to find a place to live as close as you can to where you work. Good pest control is a must - termites are a problem here. Some areas have more crime than others - do your homework before you choose a neighborhood.

I moved here at 22 and there are alot of schools in the area so there are more people in this part of area that are in the same age range compared to other parts of FL. I think major negatives are: The pay/salary here is very poor and the people who drive here are TERRIBLE drivers. If you do move here the best advice I can give you is to not get rid of your winter clothes because it DOES get cold here in the winter.
