Are there any colleges near Columbine?

Music colleges near Orlando, Florida.?

  • A friend and I are hoping to go to a specialized music school in Orlando or Tampa together. I'm going to major in Recording Arts. She's not sure what she's majoring in but it will be something with music, so we figured a music school is our best bet. We're trying to figure out what college we want to go to, though. I've already researched Full Sail University and thought it was really amazing until I read all the bad reviews about it. :/ So I was wondering if anyone knew any GOOD music schools around Orlando or Tampa, preferably cheaper than $50k a year. I'm kind of poor. D: My Asperger's Syndrome might cover some scholarships and of course we can apply for financial aid but it's not going to be easy if the price is through the roof. We were also hoping to get an apartment together near the campus of whatever college we go to, which is another reason we thought Full Sail was good (because of the apartments around the campus). If anyone could list some music-specific colleges or good main colleges with music programs that are good, please do. Thank you so, so, so much. <3

If you have already read the reviews on Full Sail, than you should know better than to apply there. I have two friends who got recording arts degrees From Full Sail. Both graduated in 2005, with nearly $100,000 in loans apiece. One is a detention deputy for Orange county corrections, the other is a cruise ship server. The point being, you are looking at an industry that is exceedingly difficult to break into, and you are thinking about doing it at a school that has a horrible student placement rate. If you and your friend want to go to school in Florida, you can attend any of the major Florida Universities. UF, USF, Miami, UCF, and FSU all have music programs. You'll get a somewhat more generalized degree, but you'll be able to use it for other things if you cannot get a job with your degree. You'll also also be able to easily switch majors in case your interests change.

I have no idea if you are interesting in going a little further south and applying to University of Miami. It is about four hours away for Orlando. The music program there is pretty good. It is really respectable program and department overall. There are plenty of apartments near campus and dorms are readily available to students. I understand completely the dilemma you are having regarding finances because I am in the same boat. It never hurts to apply and see what type of financial aid you can be eligible for perhaps for both financial aid and merit based scholarships it may be within reach. Another option in the Miami area is a school called New World School of the Arts. It has a college campus here in Miami and is relatively cheap because I believe it works with the community colleges here. Don't be discouraged by that because it is highly reputable. It is known for the high caliber it puts into arts and honing skill. The theater, art, visual communications, and music departments are top notch. You should look into it. I hope you find what school works best for you!
