Can a Japanese person rent a car in Orlando easily?
-
I am returning to the States pretty soon, and a friend of mine is coming back with me to do some site-seeing. She wants to rent a car in Orlando, but doesn't know if she will need anything special to do so. She has a valid Japanese license. Is there anything else she will need besides a valid license?

Answer:
She'll be in the same situation as any other international driver. Requirements/Recommendations: > Valid DL. > She'll have her passport, thus bring it along. > Valid credit card (NOT a debit/check card). > Is she at least 25? If she's not of age, then she has to be 21-24. If she falls within said age range, then she'll be charged an underage surcharge. Additionally, not all rental companies allow 21-24. > If she'll be visiting during peak times, and/or when there are huge conventions going on, then she needs to reserve in advance. Orlando has more rental cars then anywhere else in the states, but you'll be amazed how fast they'll run out when you have something like X-mas break & 70,000 conventioneers concurrently. > Unless she's covered by her credit card co or her auto insurance @ home, I highly recommend she purchases the rental car co's insurance. > Coach her on FL motor vehicle laws/rules. Hopefully, YOU'RE not from NY and think that you can never turn right @ a red light. Tell her that Orlando has a lot of toll roads, thus she should always have small bills or coins handy (tourists often end up on these highways inadvertently). Lastly, warn her about British tourists who drive on the wrong side of the road (this happens most often at on/off ramps to a highway). > Sightseeing: I-Drive (International Drive, Orlando, from the northern tip @ Prime Outlets to the southern tip @ Premium Outlets), Bay Hill/Windermere & Celebration (richer neighborhoods, but not as exclusive as Isleworth where it's not open to the public), Downtown Disney, WDW resorts (not the parks), Mall @ Millennia (for a modern/ritzier mall experience, although the FL Mall would be larger and more versatile), Downtown Orlando & Church St. Station (Stay away from anything more than 1-blk west of I-4, from the DT Orl area, due to crime).

They should have no problem renting a car, however they will most likely not be able to drive it very well.
