Car hire in orlando florida?

  • My family and i are going on holiday to orlando and i booked a 7 seater mini van with alamo from thomas cook, i paid like £800 includes the insurance and the sat.nav, my question is..are there any hidden charges that i must pay once i'm there or it's just that? i keep reading about extra taxes, cleaning taxes and staff like that, can anyone who hired a car over there pls let me know so i can be prepared once there. thanks a lot

  • Answer:

There should be no additional *vehicle* charges. Maintenance, oil, fluids, etc. are part of Alamo's responsibility. However, if the vehicle breaks down in a remote location, it is usually expedient to pay for repairs yourself for minor items, such as repairing a flat tire, adding coolant, etc. rather than waiting for the rental company to respond. You *are* responsible to pay for fuel, but it will seem inexpensive compared to European prices. Just before returning the vehicle, be sure to refill the tank (within a few miles of the location) as most car rental companies charge exorbitantly for this service—maybe even more than European prices.... A common ploy of rental agencies is to offer additional insurance for only $25 per day to supposedly save hassles of any damage which could cost up to $X thousand. 1) Most people paying with a credit card are already adequately insured 2) The insurance is second tier: any claim pays quickly, but then that insurance company comes after you to be reimbursed. 3) The supposed peace of mind that the insurance "offers" is a fantasy.
