Suggestions for Disney World?
-
My family and I are going to Disney World in January. We have already gotten our park hopper passes and booked our rooms at the Pop Century Hotel on the property. There is about 20 of us going and I am looking for suggestions on getting the most out of the trip. Any suggestions on packing, food, entertainment, etc or just anything to do while there to have a really good time are all welcome. I am really interested in the disney safari thing one day if anyone has done it before please let me know how you liked it since it is not included in our park hopper and would be an extra cost to enjoy that. Also if anyone has been there and knows about the golfing not necessarily at the park but in the local surrounding area and has suggestions on that would be great. My father, Aunt and I plan on golfing at least 2-3 times during the week. Thank you all. Just a little more info, we are driving down (over 2 days) and will be towing a trailer to haul everyones luggage so we are not cramped in the vehicles. We are coming from the St. Louis Mo area I have been there once but it was like 22 years ago. I am sure things have changed since then

When my family has 10 at WDW we break into 2-3 smaller groups most of the time then spend certain designated days or parts of days as a group. I wouldn't want to be in a huge group the whole time. The small groups can move faster and get more done. You need to acquaint yourself with FastPass and how it works. We give our passes to 1 person to get the Fastpasses, but with this big group, I'd send 3 with all the passes. They go ahead of the group, and speed is a plus, so teens and preteens are good Fastpass runners. When my son was 12 we started sending him, and he was speedy (especially important for Soarin). *Read about the Soarin' rope drop - be there for it, send your FP runners, then everyone gets in line. The runners catch up with the FP's, and you all get 2 rides on Soarin' in under an hour. It's the most in demand FP and some days all are gone by noon. Let me point you in the direction of great resources so you can do your own reading and research, because WDW has changed so much! You have the time to prepare and read, and I could go on and on like my tips were new, but the info is really to be found in these places. www.allearsnet.com (best WDW site - includes menus) www.disboards.com (very fun, active community) www.mousesavers.com www.touringplans.com (if you don't get a book spend $8 on this) I recommend The Unofficial Guide to Disney World which comes with touring plans in the back. It breaks WDW down ride by ride, rating it by age and telling you when to find the shortest wait times. I think it's the best for maximizing your time at Disney, but it's important to get an updated copy, not one that's a few years old. Get the newest version. Birnbaum's Guide to Walt Disney World is an interesting read if you like the descriptions of the rides and a bit of trivia. There's some helpful info, but the UOG has more. Have you taken care of dining reservations? If you want to eat together at any sit-down restaurants, you need to make those arrangements (already past when you could've called)

Can I go with you? I love Orlando we bought a time share at Orange Lake County Club 25 years ago and have gone almost every year since then. For golfing it is wonderful, 4 different courses and I think they are open to the public. Google it to make sure and set your tee times. They also have a water park and great restaurants. Sleuth's Dinner Theater is one of our favorite things to do outside of the parks. With a group you size it would be a real hoot. If you have time you should check out Universal Studios also. We were there last week and when we bought a 2 day ticket we had unlimited admission to both amusement parks and City Walk for 7 days. A fantastic value! I don't know where you plan to spend the nigh on the road but the Bollix to Mobil area is great. I know you will have a great time!!! We did even when our kids were teens!

I've been to Disney World around 10 ten times, with the most recent being this year. I also stayed at the POP century resort which was great because of the free transportation to and from Disney parks and Downtown Disney shopping center. I'm not sure if there is a separate safari ride you can do for an additional cost, but there is a safari ride in the Animal Kingdom park that is no additional charge. As long as you have your ticket to get in the park that day then you can ride it! It's an amazing ride, but you might want to ride it more than once because you can get many different experiences depending on your driver or if the animals are out and about. As far as packing goes, the weather in Orlando in January can be weird. I remember going in Jan. many years ago and one day I was wearing a light jacket and pants the next I was swimming! So definitely pack a mixture of clothes. I always remember to back a light weight poncho that you can carry around with you in the park for rainy weather or even the water rides. And I usually bring a box of snack foods to keep in the room, so I won't spend all my money on the high priced Disney snacks in the POP cafeteria! Now I'm not sure about golfing, but I'm sure if you ask the front desk when you check in they can give as much information possible on the golfing in Orlando. If you had the time and were interested Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure are some great theme parks in Orlando. The tickets are cheaper than Disney and they have a lot thrill rides to choose from. I visit the Disney parks and the Universal parks everytime I'm in Orlando. January is a great time to go to Disney World, low crowds and nice weather! I hope you have a magical time!

Get up and go right when the parks open and you can ride twice as much in the first two hours. Also use your fast pass and extra value hours. Next time try to rent a home its cheaper and you have your own swimming pool. www.orlandovacationrentalsfl.com
