How crowded are amusement parks on July 4th?

In what order do you usually visit the WDW theme parks? Why?

  • Is there a special order that you usually follow when it comes to seeing the parks? Or do you just try to go on the least crowded park days, however the order may fall? I'm wondering because we're going next November and haven't decided our plan of attack. I'd like to get it settled before making dining reservations, etc. We'll arrive on Wednesday, November 21st (day before Thanksgiving 2012) and will stay through Tuesday, December 4th. I'd like to space our park days out somewhat, because we have small children and really enjoy our "off" days to spend at the resort and recover. I'm guessing that the weekend we're arriving will be a mad house. So we will probably wait to see the parks after the Thanksgiving crowds leave. Would the Sunday following Thanksgiving still be crowded? The week following Thanksgiving should have low crowds, right? Anyone want to tell me what dates (or week days) would be best to see certain parks? We're going to spend at least one day at each of the parks, and do a night at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party as well. The rest of our time will be spent doing stuff around Fort Wilderness. Any "itinerary" suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

We usually don't pay much attention to the Extra Magic Hours or anything. We always go to Magic Kingdom first because it is our favorite, and we spend at least 2 days there. Then we just go where we feel like going. We usually decide the night before where we want to go the next day. We are not into the fine dining, so we don't do sit-down meals (maybe one, but no more). So we don't have to plan our vacation around eating. In your case, Thanksgiving is still not near as busy as Christmas. The week following Thanksgiving should have extremely low crowds, yes. So pretty much whatever you feel like doing. There shouldn't be much going on to try to plan around. Sunday after Thanksgiving could still be quite crowded, but obviously most people will have to be back home on the Monday. So crowds should be dispersing, but still there.

typically we like to base it on what parks have extra magic hours on what days but then we also have to factor in what days certain events that we like take place on which days. now we don't typically do EVERYTHING cuz some things are ok to just do every so often. lately this is how its been. -arrive on a sunday and hang out -monday do epcot cuz thats when the AAA story time is and the grand gather experience at the odyssey restaurant -tuesday magic kingdom cuz its extra morning hours -wednesday pool day and then downtown disney in the afternoon/evening -thursday hollywood studios -friday magic kingdom cuz the extra evening hours -saturday pool day, get last minute souvenirs, pack -sunday leave its crazy cuz i plan to go from november 21st 2012 to november 25th 2012. we will get there during the evening on wednesday cuz my sister is a teacher and they have school on the 21st. then we only have thursday, friday, and saturday to do the parks. we will prob go with... -thursday: epcot -friday: magic kingdom -saturday: hollywood studios since we don't stay at hollywood studios super late we will have enough time to go back to the hotel and swim and pack up to leave on sunday. since we're there for only a few days we plan to get the quick service dining plan so we are not taking much time out of the day to eat. i've been to disney world during that exact time MANY MANY times (usually it was for 2 weeks though not just a few days) and i can tell you that the crowds really aren't that bad at all. trust me if the crowds were bad we would have picked a different time to go. i would just suggest doing it as you usually would to be honest. as the old saying goes if its not broken don't fix it right? maybe i'll see you there :)

I just got back a week ago. I stayed at one of the Disney resorts. When you stay at a resort, you can get extra magic hours to go early or stay late. So I picked my days based on when I could be in the parks the longest. I definitely think putting days in between parks is a good idea - we spent 5 days in a row at the parks and were exhausted by the end!

I would suggest that for MVMCP that you avoid Friday nights. The locals usually go then, so it's a lot more crowded. I've gone to WDW during that time too and it seemed that by the following Tuesday the parks really cleared out. I'll warn you that on the first weekend of December Disney films it's Christmas Day Parade at the Magic Kingdom. If you're trying to avoid crowds, steer clear of the Magic Kingdom the first weekend of December. At least during the day.

When we went, our family always avoided Extra Magic Hours Parks. If you think about it, the majority of Disney Hotel Guests will use EMH, plus the usual amount of day guests! So, if the Magic Kingdom has opening hours until midnight, go the next day! There will be hardly anyone there! We went on the Easter weekend which was apparently very busy, but by avoiding the crowds, we had a lot of fun with minimal wait times (maximum wait: Test Track, 45 minutes) So, check out which parks have special events and EMH's, avoid them at all costs, and you'll be fine! I also suggest buying the 2011 Frommer's Unofficial Guide to WDW, it's extremely informative, and includes various itineraries for the parks, catering for different needs.

It actually varies for us quite a bit, except that we always go to the Magic Kingdom first and ride Dumbo. I don't necessarily recommend that plan, as many people go there first so the weekend/transition days can be pretty busy there. After that we base the decisions on the park hours and shows and what we feel like. We don't stay on Disney property, so we try to avoid the park with extra magic hours, as it will have more people. We generally don't do sit down resturants at Disney World becasue I want more time in the parks, I don't want to over eat, and there are more resturants than I can ever visit withing 20 minutes of my house. Also the park schedules can vary and some parks are open later than others and that changes by day sometimes. We also get the park hopper option so that can enter into this. So for us it might go something like this: Saturday arrival and check in to condo. Get groceries, and take out menus for the closest pizza and Chinese food. Then go to bed fairly early. Sunday Morning Magic Kingdom in time for the rope drop. Monday Epcot Tuesday Animal Kingdom, then Epcot Wednesday Hollywood Studios Thursday Magic Kingdom then Epcot by monorail. Hollywood Studios, then Epcot, then monorail to the Magic Kingdom. Of course this can vary. We don't really plan it, we just use all the info at hand to decide the night before. So, just take the extra magic hours, the regular hours, your meal plan, and the shows into consideration and get started. You don't want to park hop just for a meal. That can easily take 90 min out of a day for a meal. Really, there is no wrong answer so don't stress too much on it.
