Best areas in Brooklyn, NY to live for a 20-something year old?
-
I am an early, 20-something young professional planning to relocate to Brooklyn in the early part of 2012. I don't live in NY but I do live in a near by city, so I am no stranger to city life. I am currently preparing myself by looking for jobs in my field, saving tons of cash and well, doing as much research as possible. From what I've found thus far in researching, I would definitely like some more authentic opines about the best/worst places to live in Brooklyn (or somewhere comparable), how to avoid shady landlords and find a roommate. My goals are: - To spend around $700-950 a month (maybe a tad more) on rent AND utilities. - Live in something bigger than a 2x4 (preferably loft style, but i am not too picky). - Be close to public trans - Live in a safe/ safe(ish) area A little about me: - Spontaneous/ Experimental/ Outgoing/ Spunky - Super social - Creative type - Recent college grad - Single/No Kids (NO, I am not looking for a date, but I don't think I am ready to live in a family type of neighborhood just yet) - Media/Artsy profession - Slightly Trendy - Lover of thrift shops and small, locally owned business as opposed to large corporate chains Please feel free to request more information about the type of area I am looking to live in, why I chose BKLN etc. I want to narrow my search down to 3 options and explore the areas before the end of the year. Also any help on how I should go about searching for a roomy would be awesome as well. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Answer:
i think bensonhurst would be best for you. near the D train, which can take you to the city. close to pathmark for food shopping and safe. Stay away from: Coney Island (mainly the 30's) Gravesend (besides marlboro projects, and a 2 block radius from them, you should be fine) Crown Heights (parts) Flatbush (mainly when you get to the 60's) Bed-Stuy Brownsville Bushwick Redhook (Parts) East NY Ft. greene (Parts) Canarsie (which isnt that bad) besides that, anywhere esle is good, but i recommend Bensonhurst as the best place for you to live
