Can you go up to the top of the statue of liberty? To the crown?

I've heard multiple answers but I want to know for sure if tourists can or cannot go up to the crown of the statue of liberty... thanks!

The crown has been closed since 9/11/2001 (for safetty precautions) but it may be reopen for 7/4/2009. However, it will be based on a "lotto" system so those who win will be in the small group to go up. More info is below. No, you cannot go up to the crown of statue of liberty. Last year I'd like to go up to the crown, but it was impossible.....

The following text comes from the National Park Service, which is the keep of the Statue. "No. The crown has been closed since September 11, 2001. Since the Statue is anything but a conventional structure, making it easier for people to exit the crown, in the event of any emergency, is not possible.
