Any good scenic drive between NYC and Atlantic City?

Does anyone know how long it will take to drive from LaGuardia airport to Atlantic City, NJ?

  • For a graduation gift, we are taking my son to New York City. He has always wanted to see Atlantic City and Boston as well. Our initial plans were to fly in on a Saturday evening, rent a car for about 2 or 3 days and head to Atlantic City first, stay one night and then drive up to Boston for two nights before we drop off the rental car and spend the remaining 3 nights in NYC. Any suggestions? I know that sounds like a lot, but we want to try to give do everything our son wants to do. Thanks!

    2.5-3hours max is doable > Traffic is not on issue on Saturday . Early evening traffic returning to NYC on Sunday may be an issue so leave AC early enough to beat it..Don't use or trust mapquests directions , trust mine bc they are much better. To AC Grand Central Parkway north one exit Brooklyn Queens Expressway -278- towards the Verazanno Bridge -great views of manhatttan but be careful bc there are a couple of left handed exits on the BQE over the VZ bridge pay $9.00 cash toll across Staten Island Use 440 SOUTH!!!! to Outerbridge Crossing over Outerbridge and find the Garden State Parkway shortly thereafter GCP to AC TO Boston 6+ hours GCP north until it ends at the NY State Thruway I-287/87 Take the Thruway South towards NYC crossing the Hudson on the Tappan Zee Bridge Once you pay the toll you will want to follow 287 to White Plains I-684 N I-84 E thru Danbury , Waterbury & Hartford and finally finding the Mass Pike into Boston Personally on the way back from Boston I would stop in Newport RI and do ten mile mile , the waterfront area and go swimming -great beaches .Newport is just a great town to explore If you route it thru Fall River Mass ,The USS Massachusetts -a WW2 battleship is docked there and open for visiting. And then it's back to LGA I-95 S to NYC find the Hutchinson River Parkway as soon as you cross into the Bronx on 95 Hutch south over the Whitestone Br following signs for Shea Stadium /LGA Exit right Keep the LGA runways in your right eye and the Shea in your left eye and then continue bearing to your right to LGA You may want to check the NY Mets schedule so that your trip over the Whitestone Br doesn't conflict w/ their fan traffic. If you cross the bridge 90 minutes or more before game time you should be fine

About 2 1/2 - 3 hours. But if he is under 21 Atlantic City is not that exciting. There is not much to do there. At all. The city is pretty dirty other than the casinos. And the beach there is nothing great. Go down further to Wildwood and Wildwood Crest for better beaches. It may not be worth it too much to go there.

Best bet is to take a train from newark, NJ to AC, then take another train from AC to NY then a train from NY to Boston. NYC to AC is about 3.5 hours w/o much traffic. NYC to Boston is about 5 hours w/o much traffic. Add traffic and these times can EASILY double. There really is not much in AC but bad casinos and bad strip clubs. Its not like Vegas at all. Boston is a good city. If you want to go to AC first, I would fly into Newark this way you can get right on the NJ turnpike and head down to AC and save some time. If you go to Laguardia you have to fight NYC traffic. Fly into NJ and it will be much easier because you can avoid NYC traffic and get a much better view of NYC.

Hi I live in NJ - I would give yourself 2.5 hours. I'm sure the trip could be done in less time, but the NJ Parkway (you're most direct route to A.C.) tends to have heavy traffic, particularly this time of year. Have a great trip!

2-3 hours. Atlantic city - nothing other than casinos. Dont stay there too long else you might have to cut short your remaining trip for financial reasons. I lost a 1000 bucks last time when I went there.
