Is it safe travelling in NY?

  • Is it safe for a tourist to walk the streets of NY? Can one just go to Times Square to look around or to 5th Avenue to some shopping? What are the chances of getting mugged?

    Crime has dropped dramatically in NYC. Especially in Times Square and Central Park. 5th Avenue is really very safe. I think your chances of getting mugged are next to nothing unless you wander into an alley or use streets that don't have a lot of people. Stay in well lit areas too.

That is like saying should you not go to Paris and take a train due to terrorists attacks there. This is the world we live and no one can predict where the next (if there is a next one) one will happen. But the U.S. is very alert and watchful of anyone and anything trying to harm us. Any one of us could step out our doors tomorrow and not be here for whatever reason - just go and live and don't worry about something you don't have any control over.
