How much is the express bus fare (NYC) if I transfer from the subway?

• I've been thinking about taking the express bus from the city to SI, but I'd have to take the subway to get to the nearest bus stop. Since I'd already be paying $2.25 to get on the subway, does that mean I'd have to pay the $5.50 bus fare in addition to that, or do I get some kind of discount since I already paid the subway fare? I know that if you take the express bus and then transfer to the subway, you transfer for free, so I'm just wondering if there's some kind of deal, or if I'll have to pay $7.75 for this trip.

  Within 2-hours by regular MetroCard, you get free transfer to subway/local bus or other express bus. However from subway/local bus to express bus within 2-hours, you get free transfer+$3.25 deducted to equal to $5.50. For example, if you got on M15 SBS to get on Atlantic Express X23/X24, you already paid $2.25 at SBS Ticket Machine. Then when you transfer within 2-hours to X23/X24, you get free transfer however it will also deducted $3.25 to equal $5.50 total.
