What is new York city? ?

  • Hi im asian and second language english. Because I'm soon move to New York City from st.Louis, mo by next summer. I wanna know what is new York style life and cost? Any new York have $900 months for apartment? High crime? fun or boring city? How much cost of food? How much traffic? Can tell me more about new York? Cuz I used life in STL with most dangerous cities in us and cheap cost life. I don't like STL soo much boring, since I life there for 16 years. I just graduate hs recently and wanna new life with fun city.

    1. my rent for a room in Manhattan is $600... don't listen to the haters, however don't dream that you'll have your own studio or better for less than at least $1500.. maybe in a crappy area of Brooklyn, but Brooklyn stinks. 2. In NY, you have some of the most expensive things, and some of the cheapest things. If you know where to go you can get pizza slices for $1 and hero sandwiches for $3. Cigarettes however are expensive at $10-12 a pack. 3. Mind your business and don't fall asleep on the train and its unlikely youll be a crime victim.

Rent in New York is very expensive. $900 will not be enough. My recommendation is to look for roommates who will share an apartment with you and split the cost. Crime in NYC is actually much lower than it once was. There are always interesting things to do and it's such a culturally diverse place as well. Even when I have no money, I can find things to do. The cost of food depends on you but I would say you can get away with spending $80-$100 a week. Traffic is very high in busier areas. That is why I walk or use public transportation. I hope everything works out for you.

Boring? Absolutely not! Fun, yes! Expensive, yep! High crime? Some areas are more prone to crime, but overall - no, considering it's the largest populated city in America. You'll find that the cheapest areas have more potential for this. $900/month won't go far in NYC. You'll need nearly twice that amount for Manhattan. For $900/month, you'll need to find something in the outer boroughs such as Queens, Staten Island or parts of Brooklyn. I wouldn't recommend the Bronx if you're trying to find a change of familiar scenery.

NYC is VERY expensive! High crime, LOADS of traffic! Boring city...everything there is extremely overpriced..
