How much are the cheapest apartments in NYC?

• Something I've been wondering out for a while, what is the cheapest monthly rent you can find an apartment for in NYC? I've seen some apartments on Manhattan that appears from the outside anyway to be in extremely poor condition. What could an apartment like that cost per month? Also, what about the Queens, Bronx, and so on... I'm aware of that alot of neighborhoods are not safe and the apartments may be in very bad shape, but I'm just asking this out of complete curiosity.

  If you look long enough, you can find a shoebox size studio in Manhattan for around $1400/month, but you will sacrifice on size, convenience (mostly walk ups) and location. The "cheapest apartments in NYC" are the ones with a roommate(s). :) You can however, find a nice size 1 bedroom in many areas of Queens for $1k - $1400/month (the closer to Manhattan and/or express transportation, the more expensive). The Bronx is cheaper for a reason and the more desirable sections of Brooklyn have gotten nearly as high as Manhattan.
