As usual, Native New Yorker knows what he's talking about, as long as he sticks to the Bronx and Manhattan. But when he comments on any other borough, he often gets it wrong. He's right about you writing Bronx for the city and New York for the state. He's right about people in Astoria, Queens writing Astoria for the city and New York for the state. He is wrong about why! It has nothing to do with the size of the borough! It has to do with the way Queens became part of NYC. When Queens joined NYC, it was a collection of small towns, unlike Brooklyn, which was a city, and unlike the Bronx and Staten Island, which were mostly farmland. Queens already had an identity as a group of small towns, all of which already had postal addresses with the U.S. Post Office. The post office doesn't like change, so they kept the addresses the same. (This is not uncommon, the town I grew up in in New Jersey had a similar issue.)

My friend, you a correct. Since you're living in the Bronx, you put the borough's name as the city name, then the state and finally the zip code. For example: John Doe 123 Main Street Bronx, New York (or Bronx, NY) 10050 The above example also applies if you were living in either Brooklyn or State Island. If you were living in Manhattan, you will put New York, New York then the zip code. New York is the official country name for Manhattan. In Queens, due to the size of the borough, being the largest in New York City, you put the name neighborhood, then the state name and finally the zip code. For example: Jane Doe 123-01 30th Street Astoria, New York (or Astoria, NY) 10100 I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck

You're doing it correctly. You do write Bronx as city and NY as state.
