Is New York city a nice place to live?

Would new york city or california be a nicer place to live?

  • i've been looking through a lot of colleges lately and can't decide on whether im passionate to attend NYU or UCLA after high school. i personally love both places, in California, I have a lot of family who live there who i can visit from time to time and the beaches are gorgeous, but new york city is just a beautiful place :) it's always been my dream to live in the city. since NYU is in the city, i figured that it would give me the benefit to know the city well and by heart. what are your opinions?

    California has much better weather. But the traffic and smog is awful. NYC has horrible weather. But you don't need a car, and the city is so much more interesting to walk around anyway. Flights from NYC to other places (like Europe) are MUCH cheaper from NYC. It's FAR more expensive than LA though.

New York City has the highest depression rate in the country. California is full of happy people (probably the sun...)

they both have their ups and downs. California seems nicer in certain areas such as weather, but New York interests me more than California for some reason (despite it's crappy weather and high prices). How about saving up some money and taking a small trip to both places and seeing which one you like best? Money might be an issue, but if you know people that live in those places ask them for help. New York is more my taste, even though California sounds beautiful to me too. But that's me. Your tastes might be different.

Depends what city in California you are talking about. I would rather go to college in NY with all the resources it has to offer. I had been accepted into NYU adult program but could not afford the tuition at the time. I thought UCLA was too laid back. This was in the 70s.
