What are interesting ideas for a trip to NYC?

Ideas for a fun day trip to NYC alone? And in the cold weather?

  • I recently moved to Westchester County to be closer to all of the excitement of NYC, but have been spending all of my time in the suburbs. I want to spend a day (alone) in Manhattan this weekend, but would like some interesting ideas for new stuff. I also don't want to freeze the whole time, so I'd like to minimize outside walking around. I've done plenty of tourist stuff before and unless it's a particularly fun/interesting/unique exhibit I'm not dying to go to another art museum right now. What would you suggest for a fun day in NYC all by myself?

  • Answer:

Suggestion: As a single person visiting the city you will have a hugh advantages over others. You can get into lots of places a lot easier then if you were two or three. Visit Chinatown in the morning and enjoy some dim sum on Mott Street. Head over to Broadway/Canal where you can buy all the fake items. If this is not your cup of tea. Head up Broadway where you can shop at Bloomingdales or H&M. Around noon, head over to BLISS SPA which is also on Broadway. They have heated massage tables which are great. You will have to make reservations in advance. Have a early dinner at Justin Timberlake restaurant called Southern Hospitality. To cap off the evening go see a Broadway show.

I don't know if you've already been to the Metropolitan Museum, but you could go there over and over again, and still not see it all. It's huge, it's lovely, it's fun to get lost there! And it's indoors, so you'll be warm! I love the Astor Court - which is a replica of a Chinese scholar's garden located INDOORS on the second floor of the museum. Another great section is the whole 19th and 20th century painting section. And there's this great little rennaisance courtyard built right into the building next to the grand staircase. It's easy to miss unless you peek around for it. Another good place to go if you like art, but harder to get to, is the Cloisters. It's owned by the Metropolitan Museum, but it's located up in Fort Tryon Park around 200th Street, at the tip of Manhattan. It's a bunch of large courtyards and other medieval buildings that were brought here from Europe and it's filled with medieval art. It's lovely, and a really cool place to visit!

I suggest you to go to the Rockefeller Center. It is really cool and fun to be in there, you would enjoy the shops, ice skating rink, museums, and the city itself. I also would suggest you to visit Time Square, and Broadway Theater. There are awesome areas and places in New York City. You will love it! Enjoy!

Manhattan is a walker's town and that means there is plenty to see by merely walking around. If you don't want to freeze, then walking and touring the city that way is certainly not for you. You should wait til the summer, when it's warmer. Now would be a perfect time to check the city out before the next wave of tourists that come...in the spring and in the summer! Bundle up and come on down to Funkytown!

I don't know really. When I was a kid I used to walk around hotels and steal the little soaps off the maids carts and try to get on the roof and stuff like that. But that's kid stuff lol
