Where can i donate clothes in London?

Where can I donate food and clothes to Haiti in NYC?

  • I live in Manhattan, but I wouldn't mind to have to drive to another borough to donate clothes...but specifically ANYWHERE in Manhattan would be ideal for me. Anyway, my Wife and I have unused clothes and unopened, still fresh canned foods [for an emergency...but certainly is one..again] that we would love to donate. Money is pretty tight, we're trying to save up [though we donate to Manhattan's homeless, etc] but we're going to donate a little bit of cash as well [that's not an issue cause Red-Cross takes $$...but no food and clothing for respectable reasons]. Specifically, since some of our US military is camping out down there, is there like an Army, Navy, Marines, etc recruit station we can donate to or something? Help me out here please! We want to do this by Wednesday this week.

  • Answer:

Donations of food or clothing may not reach the refugees in time to do any good, because of the logistical problems of transporting them. Haiti is on an island, and the airport was damaged. There is an open airport in another country on the same island, but only a limited amount can be transported by that route. To provide as much help to Haiti as possible, you should give the food and clothing to Manhattan's homeless, who are local, so the logistical, transportation, and distribution issues will be simpler, and give the money that you planned to give to Manhattan's homeless to the Haitian relief effort instead. Manhattan's homeless need food and clothing more than they need money (unfortunately, much of the money given to them is used for drugs or alcohol). The Haitian relief effort needs money more than it needs food that is in the U.S. or clothing that is in the U.S. There is a recruiting station on a tiny triangular block in Times Square formed by the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue. It is easy to spot because it is the only small to moderate sized building in an area where all the other buildings are very tall, making it look like a newstand by comparison.
