A question on nyc subway map?
-
I'm just reaching nyc today to spend time with family. They cannot come to JFK to receive me, so I"ll me taking the subway to go their home which is in downtown brooklyn(close to the atlantic avenue station). So what train/subway will get me to atlantic avenue? I saw the map and it said J. But I've never heard of the J train, wondering if there is any change in schedule in nyc maps? and by the way, is it safe to travel on this train(i've only travelled in the subway in manhattan, so I know its safe).

Answer:
My friend, since you want to go to Atlantic Avenue (aka Atlantic Terminal), forget the subway and take the Long Island Railroad, which is a commuter railroad. Here's how to get from JFK Airport to the Atlantic Avenue. Step 1: take the Airtrain from the terminal to Jamaica Station. Please listen for the announcement "Station D: Jamaica Station." Step 2: at Jamaica Station, purchase a $5 MetroCard from the MetroCard Vending Machine, and exit the Airtrain system into Jamaica Station. The $5 fare will be deducted from the MetroCard, when exiting the Airtrain system at Jamaica Station. Step 3: Once thought turnstile (faregate), follow the directional signs to the Long Island Railroad. Purchase your LIRR ticket from the ticket machines on the pedestrian bridge overlooking the platform. A one way off peak ticket from Jamaica Station to Atlantic Terminal will cost you $6.25. Once you purchase your ticket, look at the display board on the pedestrian bridge for the next arriving train bound for Atlantic Terminal, which are the Rockaway and the Long Beach Branch. Any train from these two branch line will take you from Jamaica to Atlantic Terminal. The display board will tell what track the next westbound train will arrive on, which is usually tracks 1, 2 or 3. Once on board the train, sit back relax and the enjoy the trip to Downtown Brooklyn, which take about 10 minutes. I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck

There's a subway station at the airport, when you'll get there just ask the information how to get to downtown Brooklyn, they'll know for sure..
