☆E Train-Jamaica/179th St Schedule?
-
The MTA doesn't have a schedule for that train on it's website, and I want to take the E train into the city next week, but I don't want to stand at the station and find out it doesn't come for an hour or something.

Answer:
From 179th St/Jamaica, you can take the F train to Kew Gardens - Union Turnpike and wait on the same platform for a Downtown E (or go to the uptown platform for the uptown E). That way you won't be stuck waiting for a train that may not be coming. There aren't that many E trains that leave from or go to 179th St (usually only during rush hours), so few in fact that they are not even listed on the latest timetable (which I am looking at now).

Here is the E Line subway info below http://www.mta.info/nyct/service/eline.htm http://www.mta.info/status/serviceStatus.html (planned work) http://travel.mtanyct.info/serviceadvisory/ (advisory) "Manhattan and Jamaica-bound trains are affected by signal work" "Manhattan-bound E trains are rerouted via the F, after 36 St and run to 34 St-Herald Sq, the last stop." Use the trip planner to find the approximate arrival/departure times. http://tripplanner.mta.info

The wait between subways is never an hour. The worst case scenario would be perhaps having to wait 10 to 15 minutes, and odds are you won't even be waiting that long.

The trains run every few minutes during the day. At night they are the mos infrequent, but still every twenty minutes they run.

If you need the E train specifically, take the F train to Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike and transfer across the platform to the E train. Those special E trains only run to 179th Street during rush hours, due to limited terminal capacity in Jamaica Center. Therefore, rather than wait for one of those trains, it is best to take the F to Union Turnpike and wait for the E. Hope this helps.

First of all my friend, the "E" train (Blue Line on the subway map) does not go to Jamaica/179th Street , except during the morning and evening rush hours. The "F" train (Orange Line) serves that station all times. Second, you're not going to wait a hour for train and then find out that is not running. "E" trains run every 5 to 10 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes during the late night hours (11pm to 6am). Therefore, there always a train running on that line. Now, if you want to schedule for the "E" train, which is completely irrevelant because this a subway line not a commuter line, the link below is a PDF copy of the train schedule. http://mta.info/nyct/service/pdf/tenxt.pdf If you're traveling to the city on the weekends, you can check the latest travel status at the following links below. http://mta.info/ (MTA) http://publictransist.blogspot.com/ (My Transit Blog -- Weekend advisories can be found on the right side of the page under the title "NYC Transit") I hope this information is very helpful. This site helps you. http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6898 There might be schedule change, so best chance to join this forum and ask them after introducing yourself. Limited rush hour (E) originate/terminate at Jamaica-179th St because Jamaica Center cannot handle many trains.
