What is the best way to commute to Brooklyn?

From Perth Amboy, NJ to Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn- Public Transportation Only?

• Hey there, I'm looking at a rental in Perth Amboy, NJ and I'm planning on attending Kingsborough Community College in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn. I was wondering if there was a way to get between these two places using only public transportation and WITHOUT going through manhattan - I know there's a train & bus to midtown. I'm looking for a commute through Staten Island b/c I think it would be faster. If you look on a map, it seems like it would be a straight shot, outerbridge crossing to verrazano to coney island area... but i can't (sorta refuse) to drive, and i dont know if the mechanisms exist to do this w/o a car...or walking. Help please!

  There are no NJ Transit buses that go into Staten Island. Most Staten Island buses that do go into Brooklyn are Express buses to Manhattan. There are 3 local buses that do go into Brooklyn but they only go as far as 86th St/Fort Hamilton (next to last stop on the R train). To put it plainly, unless you are driving (which I can understand why you don't want to), you are "stuck" having to take NJ Transit (NJ Coast Line) to NY Penn Station. I can fully understand why you are asking. The overall route you have to take is a long and tedious one: NJ Transit to NY Penn, then walking over to 6th Av/Broadway to take either the B or Q trains to Brighton Beach station and then taking the B1 bus to the college. Have you considered looking at rentals in places closer to NYC like Jersey City or Hoboken? You'd still have to come in thru Manhattan (via PATH) but the trip would take less time.
