Where should we move - Philly or NY?

Where should I move in NY?

  • I just finished getting my teaching credential in CA and I am thinking of moving to NY and starting my career there. Is there any city that anyone recommends? I would love to live in the Manhattan area, but I'm open to any ideas thanks!

  • Answer:

Living in manhattan can be very expensive especially for a teacher. You would be better off living just outside, in the boroughs of Queens or the Bronx. And I'll probably get thumbs down for this, but when you're a new teacher in NYC, you'll most likely be starting out at a "not so great" school. If you live in one of the boroughs, you're still close enough to manhattan to commute to work or hang out.

There is absolutely no place like Manhattan anywhere else. It's truly unique (in a very good way). Good teachers are highly sought after in NYC. One bonus in teaching in NYC public schools is the tremendous benefits and the assistance in obtaining a Masters Degree. Good luck to you.

Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. The best place on earth.
