  • Answer:

New York actually has one of the lowest per-capita crime rates, so yes, it is possible for you to be safe here. It's bustling and there's so much to do, it can definitely lift your spirits. It can be quite stressful, but nothing like you've experienced in wartime. In fact, since you've experienced *real* stress, the city will seem like a placid lake. Manhattan rents can be very, very expensive, so if that's an issue, you might look at Brooklyn or one of the other outer boroughs for a place to live. If you do have money, find a broker so you can get a place that meets your requirements and maybe even pay the full year up front to guarantee it. For a year (with no income coming in), plan on $30,000 for a modest time. If you really want to go nuts and eat in finer restaurants, see shows, take taxis, etc., make it that much not including housing. I hope it works out. PS Your question isn't stupid, and your command of English is quite good. No one will judge you for that here. :o)

We see much worse language in this forum, believe me. At least you've tried to be understandable. First, you should visit the US Embassy in Tbilisi to get the official information about visa requirements, especially for such a long stay. I don't know what your tastes in hotels are like, but rooms can frequently cost more than $150 per night. That would be $4500 per month. So, you'll need a lot of money for this trip.
