What is the best way to commute to Brooklyn?

Commuting from Brooklyn to Staten island?

  • I commute from Brooklyn to Staten island everyday for work. It takes 2 hours each way through public transportation. If drive, it would take about 45 minutes but the bridge to staten island is $13 a day not including gas. It would cost me about 300 a month to get to work if I drive. I don't know if I should keep this job or go back to my old job. This job pays $7000 more. My old job was in lower manhattan.

The EZ-Pass fee is $9.60. You only pay $13 if you pay cash. So it adds up to around $200 per month plus gas. If the only reason you bought the car was for the commute, then I'd say to go back to your old job, since owning a car can be very expensive (gas, tolls, maintainance, etc) If you were planning on keeping a car anyway, I'd take the job in SI. You're only paying about $2,400 per year in tolls, plus gas money, which shouldn't be more than an extra $2,000 per year at most, so you still come out ahead with this new job. Or you can try and move to Staten Island, so you could have a reasonable commute by public transportation. You may have to pay money to move in the first place, but the cost of living is cheaper here than in Brooklyn. I hope this information was very helpful.
