Is it very expensive travelling to NY?

Travelling to NY from UK and would like to know the nearest airport to 5th Ave, btwn 58th & 59th Sts?

  • My girlfriend and I will be doing a Sex and the City tour and we'll only be in NY for 3 days. We therefore would like to get to the nearest airport.

  • Answer:

I would say land at JFK, its much easier to get from there to 5th Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets (I believe that the location of The Plaza Hotel). Plus the fare on the subway is cheaper than a taxi. The subway and airtrain cost $7 US (3.55 UK Pound), compare that to taking taxi from the airport, which will cost $45 US (22.83 UK Pound). Good luck

well, it's an international flight, so you will be landing at JFK or newark. choose JFK because the connections are better. at JFK, you just take the airtrain shuttle monorail from jfk to jamaica queens for the E train. do not take the airtrain shuttle monorail to howard beach for the A train. you want the E train. take the nyc subway E train to 5th ave and 53rd st stop. and then walk the rest of the way, 5 blocks to 58th st. easy. ------ oh yeah, don't listen to those that say go land at newark. if you go to newark, you have to take the train in, then you have to take a subway, there are more connections here and it's more of a hassle. taxi.. if you really wanted to pretend to be a star in sex in the ctiy, then meh ok, go take the taxi... it will be $45 not including tolls and tips, from jfk airport.

Actually the public transit connection are a lot easier from Newark airport than from JFK (3 train stops to Penn Station as compared to about 15 subway stops), but I would choose which airport gives you the cheapest fare (EWR or JFK). The distance between midtown and either airport isn't that great.

international flights arrive at JFK

Yes, international flights land at JFK. However, international flights can go to Newark, too. (Mostly from the far east, but not exclusively.) Newark is actually called Newark Liberty International Airport. Even Laguadia has immigration control, so they can have international flights as well, though I think only to the Americas, and not Europe at all. Since you will be coming from Europe, you will probably land at JFK. And between JFK and Newark, JFK is still closer.

You want to land either at LaGuardia airport in NYC, airport call sign LGA, or at Newark, New Jersey, they are the closest to Manhattan, which is where the streets you mention are located. JFK airport also in NYC is a further distance. The shortest cab ride is from LaGuardia.

Since this is an international flight you will be landing in JFK or Newark(EWR). Choose JFK, it is closer than EWR. Don't bother taking the subway (its too much of a hassle i've done it before). Get a yellow (NYC) taxi to take you to Manhattan. The price from the airport to anywhere in Manhattan is one price. Its $45 plus tolls and tip so your looking at about $60 or about £30. Have fun!!!
