Shipping company or moving company?

What is cheaper for moving from Houston to NYC: a moving company or shipping via USPS/UPS?

  • I am moving from Houston, TX to New York, New York at the beginning of next month. I don't plan on bringing any large furniture, except for a bed if I use a moving company who will drive a truck up there and a TV. Does anyone know if it'd be cheaper to ship my clothes, books, and kitchen stuff (pretty much all I'm bringing) through USPS (or private mail carriers) OR hire a moving company to fill up their truck and have them drive it up to New York? If anyone can shed some light on this issue or has any moving advice then please let me know! Thanks.

  • Answer:

It doesn't sound like you have a lot to move and since professional movers often work within certain weight requirements, it would probably make sense for you to go with a UHaul if you are moving the bed or a service like UPS or ShipSmart if you are not taking the bed. Honestly, you may want to sell your bed and buy a new one when you reach your destination. Good luck with your move!
