Take the test when announced, aim to score high enough. Suggestion/think about it: put in 20 years with the city, retire at 40. Before you retire, take a NYS open-competitive Judicial test (i.e. Court Officer) if announced (tests are usually given every 4 yrs., depending on budget; right now tests are suspended until further notice) no age restriction; again, hope to score high enough in order to get on the Eligible list. Pass the physical/psychological test/background/academy, then 1 yr. probation if placed. Stay in the Judicial system for 20 years. Within those years, (and depending on how often), take Promos for Court Clerk (there are more chances for advancement within the Court Clerk title series than for Court Officer. Court Clerk has 3 levels - Sr., Associate, Principal; pays higher than Court Officer over the long term. You're now 60, with 20 years of city credit and 20 of Judicial state = 60/40. If you pass the Sanit test are hired, and decide at some point you'd want to work for Judicial, your city time is applicable towards your pension benefits. It could make a difference in the amt. of your pension benefits. Check it out before you take any Open-Competitive Judicial test, if you so desire, at the NYCERS ref. below. Best of luck
