What should I be this Halloween?

What is Halloween like in NYC?

  • We will be in New York City with our 11 year old daughter on Halloween. She still wants to dress up and trick or treat. Are there places for her to do that? We will be staying at a hotel in manhattan. Also, what kinds of fun Halloween events are there in the city before and during Halloween. Halloween is our favorite holiday so we want to be able to enjoy it New York style. Thanks!

Well theres a lot of places that don't give out candy. When I was little I'll go to my cousins house in Edison NJ and trick or treat over there since the candy they give out are much more better and also doesn't matter what block you go on they always have candy to give out. It's a peaceful area as well. Well in NYC it be tough. Brooklyn is a good place, You could get a lot of candy just by walking on 4th and 5th ave in sunset. But in you will see a lot of thrown eggs on the floor, cars. They usually don't mess with people that walk with there children though. But still not good. But a pretty cool thing you could check out is the Halloween Parade. It's in Manhattan so got nothing to worry about. Cops be everywhere. Hey--I just answered this in part on your other question. The Halloween Parade is Greenwich Village is fun, but freaky. It might not be appropriate for your 11-year-old, but only you can decide that. But check out the Halloween event at the American Museum of Natural History! First time I heard of it--I want to go!!!! http://www.amnh.org/programs/specials/halloween/

Halloween is very fun in NYC! She can treat or treat any where! Just make sure she will know how to go back to the hotel, let her bring a map with her. Good luck!

In a lot of neighborhoods, the store fronts offer candy for trick-or-treaters. Call your hotel in advance and ask the concierge about the availability of such options near the hotel. Most New Yorkers of trick-or-treating age go apartment to apartment in their buildings and their friends buildings, but that's not really an option for a tourist. The Halloween parade in Greenwich Village will be too racy and too packed for an 11-year old. There are some kids there, but it's probably not a great idea. It might be fun to wonder around that neighborhood in costume on Halloween during the day. That's probably a good area to try trick-or-treating. But you should probably head out before the crowd gets too big close to the start of the parade. Again, ask the concierge for some good inside info.

head out to brooklyn or queens for trick or treating in houses. you'd have a hard time getting into apartment buildings for it in manhattan
