What are some fun activities to do in New York who is already a New Yorker?
-
I have lived in New York for most of my life and I am starting to get BORED doing the same things every weekend because I feel there is nothing fun for me and my boyfriend to do on our days off. Please advice on some fun New York activities for a New Yorker. Please don't advice tourist things because I have lived in New York for over 20 Years and I have been and no longer have interest visiting the statue of liberty, Empire State Building, or anything that a non New Yorker might love to see. I have also been to all or at least most Museums. Just hoping possibly someone can point out a hidden Gem or and activity I have yet to think of myself. I would not even mind suggestions to places a little out of the city that I can hop on path Train or Jersey bus about an hour away!?!?!?!? Please Throw out as many suggestions that you can think of! Thanks so much!!!!!

This is a tough question because I am also a New Yorker and have done much of the tourist stuff as well. I know how you feel. However, there is so much to do in New York that one really shouldn't get bored. For example, we have plays on and off Broadway. Many of which you can get floor level seating for a steal if you buy the tickets the same day you are going to view the play. The trick is to go very early in the morning. Cooking classes are offered all over and often by top ranked chefs. Check out local restaurants as well as culinary schools. Dancing lessons. Check out your local dance studio or neighborhood community center. Many offer dance classes for a small fee or no charge at all. Now that summer is fast approaching Central Park will be buzzing with concerts and plays as well. Since you are up to traveling, check out Long Island (www.longisland.com). There are several fun events and activities i.e. Long Island Wine Tours. Everyone goes to the Hampton's but Long Island has so much more to offer. Live tapings. I've lived in New York for over 40 years and I've never once went to a live taping of any of the many shows that are recorded there. Moreover, there are tons of films made in New York as well. Be an extra in a movie just for the heck of it. Or create your own. Or if Jersey is as far as you want to escape from NYC, check out this website-http://www.nj.com/events/. They have great ideas as well. Hope this helps.
