Moving to New York City?
-
I'm 13 and I live with my mom out on Long Island, NY and ever since i started modeling im in New York City all the time. Pretty much every weekend and sometimes on weekdays ill miss school to do shoots. So we were thinking about moving there permanently and i dont mind because i love New York City. But we need a good website to look at apartments. Or we need some reasonable apartment buildings. if we're renting an apartment our budget is between $1000-$2,500 a month. If we're buying something we're looking between $100,000-$500,000. and we want our place to be uptown, like middle manhatten Anyone have any good building ideas? or websites we can look on?

The basic real estate sites like Century 21 are a good reference, but there's so many private companies out there specifically designed for this, that finding a good apartment won't be trouble. You won't find anything near $1,000 a month, so X that out. You can probably find a decent one bed room in the low $2,000's on the Upper West Side. You might be able to get a two bedroom in the mid-$2,000's. It'll be hard finding that on the Lower East Side or Mid-Town though. I'd suggest the Upper West Side though. A big question you have to ask your mom is does she plan on continuing to own a car? If she does, it'll be hell finding a spot. Plus, it makes no sense owning a car there since the public transportation is incredible. You'd save a lot of money on not spending on car insurance, car loans, gas or maintaining it though, so you might be able to have an extra few hundred a month in your budget. Buying an apartment certainly is a good choice too, because it'll definitely profit. It'd be a good investment. Long Island's okay. It's like any other suburban place. The other 4 boroughs actually can kind of relate too. There's parts of Brooklyn, like Park Slope and Williamsburg that have that Manhattan type vibe too though. I don't blame you to want to get out of Long Island either. They'll be people who tell you Manhattan's so expensive, yet Nassau County is probably the next most expensive place in the area. If you live there and your mom owns a home, just ask her what her property taxes are. There's a lot of people like yourself, models, stock brokers, artists, musicians and actors all types of jobs that are great there. The convenience is really the best thing about it, but you're living in the scene. You may eventually get tired of it, but what's the big deal if you do? You won't have to give up your job, since you live close enough to commute. You could always visit your family and friends in Long Island too.

idtown, for that money? Well ... maybe, seeing that some people may be forced to sell at any price or lose everything. If you change your ideas, and accept a nice neighborhood in Brooklyn or Queens, even a single ride from midtown, the top end of your range would be easy. Find a neighborhood, find a real estate broker and start looking. (You can get an idea on the web, but you have to go to see. The web won't tell you that the apartment looks out on a supermarket parking lot.) I can't tell you what will look most like home because you don't say where on the island you are (Aquebog and Levittown aren't at all alike), but there are some very nice areas in the "bedroom boroughs" that you could afford for those numbers.

To be honest with you, I wouldn't move there if I were your mkother because first off, you will get EXTREMELY tired of it and second off, to tell you the truth, you are not going to find some apartments that cheap and if you even do, everything else there is a fortune. Keep living in Long Island. It is too much of a beautiful place. But New York City is a great place for vacations.

your best bet is to find a real estate agent that can help you. $100k to $500k is a very wide budget range, you'll have to be much more specific than that. If your monthly budget for renting is no more than $2500 per month you'll likely be looking at buying no higher than about $350 - $400k because in addition to mortgage payments most apartment buildings have monthly common charges for things like maintenance, garbage removal, etc.

Well, i always travel to the city, mostly Manhattan because i was born there. The apartments in Manhattan are pretty expensive so it's very hard with your salary range. I was watching keeping up with the kardashions and chloe(her parents are rich, but shes middle) and she wanted to move to manhattan and she had the same salary range as you, $2,500 and the tour girl showed her some they were cheap and ugly and old. I'm thinking you should try another part of the city or investigate on buying a house not renting an apartment. well good luck!
