What are the good photography schools in NYC?

How do A-rated NYC public schools compare to good schools in the suburbs of NYC?

  • Each NYC public school is given a letter grade by the NYC Department of Education, similar to the grades a student would receive on a quiz. A lot of people who don't know the city assume its public schools are bad, but I think that's not necessarily true. As you know, NYC has hundreds of diverse neighborhoods. They all fit different types of people best. What NYC neighborhoods have the best public schools? Include that in your answer also please.

  • Answer:

Yeah, the letter grades are complete crap. What the letter grade tells you is different from what the students experience in the school. In any case, District 26 in Eastern Queens is regarded as one of the best districts in the city, as is District 31 (Staten Island), and areas of Manhattan like the UES and UWS (the schools are in high demand, and so kids that are zoned for the school might not even be able to get in). I hope this information was very helpful.

The letter grades are nonsense. Anyone with a passing understanding of how they are put together would agree. They are a perfect case of how to lie with statistics. There are many, many fine schools that people fight to get their kids into that did not get an A on their "report card". This is due to having already high test scores and therefore not being able to show some arbitrary measure of "progress" because the kids were already scoring so high. Also, because schools are compared with a group of so called "similar schools" but for some schools, that comparison group may be inaccurate for a variety of reasons. DON'T base your judgement of a school on it's letter grade! Visit any school you are really interested in. See if it's a place you would want your child to go. Insideschools.org gives good tips about what to look for when you tour a prospective school.

Can you define "suburbs of NYC?" Because NYC is a combination of 5 boroughs... Do you mean areas outside of Manhattan? I went through a Prep School on Wall Street as a child. I loved it, and I would never send my kids to any school outside of Manhattan.

Those are counties, not small towns. Failed Geography?
