Where's the best hotel to stay at on Ibiza?

Cheap places to stay in New York City?

  • Hey! I just booked my flight New York with a few buddies for a week in December. I was wondering wheres the best place to stay? We're college students and on a budget. I was looking at: http://www.hostels.com/new-york/usa However, I couldn't decide where to stay. I'm looking to stay somewhere near all the tourist attractions, Time Square, Central Park etc. I'm seeing Brooklyn, Central Park West, and different locations, wheres the best place to stay? Lastly, should I even consider pitching in for a cheap hotel/motel room? We're staying for 5 nights and assuming the hostel is gonna be about $30-40 a night per person, we mine as well pitch in for our own room. Are there any cheap hotels at a good location?

Probably, one of THE best budget hotels in NYC, is the Pan-American Hotel in Elmhurst, Queens. It is a scant fifteen minutes away from Manhattan, is located on Queens Boulevard next to shops, a wonderful restaurant called POP Diner, Queens Center, a bus stop across the street, and a subway station a few blocks away. You can get a room for about $100 and under, especially if you are a member of AAA (discounts are available). The hotel is so comfortable, has private bathrooms, clean and attractive rooms, room service/restaurant on premises, daily maid service, internet kiosks in the lobby...EVERYTHING. It is the probably the best kept secret in New York. I've stayed there twice and loved it every time. http://www.panamhotel.com/ True, it's in Queens, but it is only a few minutes away from the excitement of Manhattan and all of the tourist attractions. It's never been a problem with me and the great price and amenities have all been worth it. EDIT: In answer to your additional details, if you stay at the Pan-American hotel, I'd say the best mode of transportation, which is even quicker than subway, would be the bus. Across the street from the hotel there is a bus stop that takes you straight into Manhattan for under 20 minutes. It's cheap, fast, and extremely convenient. Tokens have been made obsolete with the replacement of them by the Metro card. The Metro card is a transportation pass that you use to get around via subway/bus throughout NYC. There are Metro card dispenser machines all throughout the city, in the subway stations, and it is your decision how much money you insert into the machine, which is placed on the card.

I'm with the other poster above. Your best bet is going to be to cross over the 59th Street Bridge into Queens and stay in Long Island City or Astoria. You're just across the east rives, there are reputable clean, chains and the price drops by 50% as opposed to Manhattan. Won't be the most amazing hotel, but it will save you money. Look for one with a short walk to the 7 Line. Best of all? You're close to Times Square, Central Park, etc than you would be if you stayed waaaaayy uptown.

And I have to agree with what a man told me a long, long time ago: "$100 is not a lot...IF YOU'VE GOT IT."

I stayed at Hostelling International , 891 Amsterdam Avenue near the far end of central park. I would think it would be great for a group of 5. When I went it was fine and clean (but that was 5 years ago and staff change). No experience of it, but the Broadway Hotel n Hostel is similarly located appears to be a bit cheaper and has good reviews. If you do intend to stay at an HI hostel, order a YHA card (if in UK or equiv in other countries) about £10? which gives you HI membership and saves you time and money taking out temporary HI membership at HI hostels. If your group can find a hotel that lets you share 3 & 2 to a room it may possibly work out cheaper. However when I went, cheap US hotels had a reputation for bed bugs, and it appears there is still a problem see http://www.huliq.com/8059/90717/bedbugs-infest-hotel-mattresses-ten-dirtiest-hotels-us; so it is very important you read reviews for any hotel you book.
