Where is the best place to live for a nyc college student??

  • I will be going to a school in nyc. I don't care about a commute where is the best possible place to live for a college student. I'm looking for safety, fun, and not a sky high rent. I need transportation close too. It doesn't have to be in Manhattan but i'd like to stay some what close to Manhattan. I don't want to be in the Bronx. I'd prefer somewhere in Brooklyn or queens but not to far in. thanks

    i'd consider Morningside Heights, home of Columbia University. it has the feeling of a college town, but professionals and families also live there. it has some of the best housing stock in NYC, and Riverside Park runs along its western edge. of course it is dominated by Columbia, but there are other non-affiliated colleges there as well, like Bank Street College of Education, Jewish Theological Seminary and the Manhattan School of Music. it can be on the expensive side, but i think the neighborhood is fun and lively, the bus connections are great, and the subway runs right under Broadway.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Where exactly are you going to school? You say that commute doesn't matter, but trust me, if you're commuting two hours a day that will get old fast.

Most decent places in the five boroughs are expensive. I know you said you did not want the Bronx - bit take a look at the Riverdale section and surrounding areas - they are affordable and a quick commute into Manhattan.
