How section 8 works in New York City?

  • Can someone tell me how section 8 works in New York City. Is that mean I can look for owners of all apartments from Craigslist who can accept section 8 then show him the proof of my fiancee and my income from SSD/I? Or I have to go to one building that has to apply the form for section 8. Let me know how it works. Thanks.

    Get a better job and pay your own way. I'm tired of paying tax dollars to support people on the dole. And don't have babies out of wedlock.

Section 8 works the same everywhere in the USA. You have to file an application with the New York Housing Authority and go on a waitlist for about 7 years. I dont know if each borough has their own or if some cities like Brooklyn have their own housing agency. The applilcation process is closed for Section 8 according to this link. EDIT: There are hundreds of subsidized buildings with their own waitlists you have to find out which they are. Not section 8.
