What should I wear for a drama play?

What to wear on school field trip to Broadway play?

  • I live in NY. We are going to the city to see a play, for my drama/ acting class, and the school required a dress code for everyone that is going. It is semi-formal-business attire. We are taking the train to Grand Central and then walking to the theatre. I am not sure what I will wear, but I don't know if i want to walk around the city in a suit and tie. If i have to I guess there is no choice, but looking for other options or if I have to wear a suit and tie. I know some of my friends are, others are dressing less. We are also going to a fancy restaurant after. I am a sophomore guy

  • Answer:

You'll be fine in your suit and tie. Most people will assume that you are with a school trip, and for the most part, they won't care just go and have fun

Semi-formal gives you some options. For instance, unless told otherwise, you can leave off the tie. Also, rather than a full suit, you can just wear a blazer with a pair of nice slacks (such as a blue blazer with a pair of tan slacks). If in doubt about the tie, just toss one into your pocket. If the teacher makes a thing about it, or if the restaurant requires them, you can go into a restroom and put it on.

You should ask your teacher or whoever at school is organizing the trip.
