    Depends how far you are willing to go on LI. You can rent a surfboard at most local surf shops (in the book) near a beach. Try a longboard first. As for where, you could try Robert Moses State Beach, Jones Beach, or as far out as East Hampton or Montauk. If you tell me how far you are willing to go, I can be more specific.

no one really surfs in nyc itself.. try montauk beach, like just go for a weekend. i went there once, its gorgeuos. but it is the furthest tip of l.i. however, so thats why i suggested a weekend.
