Over this winter, I'm thinking in Dec. and January I'm trying to plan a fun day with my girlfriend in the city, what are some good ideas? Thanks in advance.

if you can tolerate the cold, a walk over one of the bridges is my favorite thing to do (and I live here). The Brooklyn or Wiiliamsburg is great for walking over. My boyfriend loves to do this to me when he visits. Ice skating is central park is always fun in the winter. Warm up with a cocktail at Tavern on the green. NYC has the best restaurants-I don't know what your food preferences are but there is enough to choose from. skip the touristy stuff but definately not times square. It must be seen. Something different would be to go down to south street seaport to go see the Bodies exhibit. Very different and beautiful. If you walk over the brooklyn bridge from the city to Brooklyn-right underneath the bridge is an area of Brooklyn known as DUMBO (down underneath the manhattan brooklyn bridge overpass) and there you will find a choclatier by the name of Jacques Torres and they make some of the finest hot chocolate I ever had. And if NY pizza is your thing, Grimaldi's around the corner makes true coal fired oven pizza. They don't do slices though-just pies with delicious toppings and perfect crisp crust. The area is a bit industrial looking but there is a small park with a view of the statue of liberty. perfect place to watch the sunset. Very romantic and quiet. And then to walk back into manhattan at night over the bridge with all the lights on-you will always remember it.

Time Square's fun. Just take her out down around 92nd and fourth, and catch the subway down to Grand Central. You can have fun trying to find your way around the city using the subway, i hear its fun for out-of towners. But yeah, just go out, and walk around time square and the area. There's plenty of spontanious shoping and such to do.

You can't go wrong with manhattan! You can check out a majority of the sites in a close proximity, statue of liberty, ground zero, grand central station, wall street, chinatown, battery park, central park, times square, empire state building, Madison Square garden, the list goes on and on! Avoid Harlem, When you get there, there is so much tourist info that you will definitely be able to find all you want to see1
