Answer:
Us New Yorkers are actually nice, friendly people. If you ask for directions we will gladly help you and even show you on a map how to get there. New Yorkers are always in a hurry. So try not to walk slowly in front of rushers, you just might get cursed out. Especially if you are on an escalator in the subway. Stand to the right side if you just want to ride the escalator and leave space for the rushers to walk up on the left side. Don't stare, point or laugh at anyone. You could end up getting hurt. If you sight see in the Bronx, go to the Bronx Zoo then across the street to the Botanical Gardens, Pelham Bay park to picnic, Fordham Road to do some cheap shopping, the Bronx Art Museum, Bay Plaza shopping Center for more cheap shopping. 3rd Ave. & 149th Street also has cheap shopping. In Manhattan, if you shop at the malls on 34th Street you could find bargains there also. And in some small shops around midtown and lower Manhattan. If you travel by subway, make sure to get a 7 day Metrocard to be able to board unlimited buses and trains all around the city for 7 days. (Right now it costs $24) A 1 day unlimited Metrocard is $7. This city is more safe now than it has ever been and the people are helpful. You definitely do not want to be in any park when it gets dark or any dark, lonely street, whether you're by yourself or with a group. New Yorkers can always tell who the tourists are because they usually stay in packs, have backpacks on, are holding a lot of subway maps and are dressed differently and also look lost. You will have so much fun here. You'll love it!

NYC is a great place. The natives (like me) love tourists. You can get tourist t shirts 5 for $1 from some street vendors. For little souvernirs I would got to Duane Reade (one of our sundries shop) Don't be afraid of asking for directions, most people will help you. Just one caveat it's getting harder to tell the crazies from the normals so many people seem to be talking to themselves when they are actually talking on their mobiles. Stick to the buddy system when walking about. Have fun, I'm sure you will love your trip here

The odds are you are not going to meet any new yorkers. The rude people you will meet will be the other tourists.

my first few years in the city i felt kind of out of place because everybody seemed to be agressive, but i got used to things, if you're just going to be there for a little while you dant have to worry about how the people act or anything...prices might not be to your liking even though there's a large large LARGE variety of stores

In new york city they act a little tough and a little mean even though they are nice underneath.

We are nice, its just that we rarely make eye contact (you never know who's a little crazy), & we're always very much in a rush to get everywhere. Its not that we're trying to be rude, we just get impatient sometimes.
